European Network for Policewomen (ENP) members Mary T. McCormack from Ireland and Vanessa van den Berg from The Netherlands were present as observer members during the general board and elections of EUpol in Brussels. EUpol is a European federation for police unions. Having been founded only 4 years ago, from the beginning they sought out a connection with the ENP. The reason is that police unions have a goal to have more women representing female officers and police staff within the different police unions throughout Europe.
At the assembly ENP member Vanessa shared her aim for EUpol: “Women are the majority in the societies we serve, more women in the police would benefit the quality and legitimacy of policework. Therefore also police unions should have more attention to be representing women. Also in the board, in decisionmaking roles or as a leader.”
The new executive board of EUpol ensured they included diversity and inclusion in the proposed action plan for the coming years, where ENP will support and advise the board on relevant topics.
